Buy Canon 60d
I would strongly suggest you buy Canon 60d if you are in the market for a great DSLR camera. Why? It rocks in every way.
This DSLR enables us to do manual audio adjustments. This is a great benefit for getting a professional recording.
The image quality is a big reason you should buy Canon 60d. I think the 60d is the best of all the DSLR cameras. It costs significantly less than the 7d or 5d, it has the same great quality as the 7d, and it is a lot tougher than the t2i.
Compared to most cameras the sensor size is gigantic equals the size of regular 35 mm film. This means you will get that same great shallow depth of field which is the typical look of 35mm film. Yes a cinematic look like this is only made with large sensors.
Cameras that cost ten times the price are not as good in sensor size and image quality as this.
The other great thing is the flip out LCD monitor, which is the only DSLR that can be used on a Steadicam without investing a ton of money.
Just flip out the screen and let it fly, the screen swivels dynamically, so shooting at extreme angles is made easy this way. I use the Flycam Nano, and it works great, just don’t forget to balance the Flycam with the LCD monitor flipped out. You want the Flycam to balance properly, which is the hardest thing to get right at first.
Is it difficult to shot a feature length film on the 60d? I don’t think so Honestly I am shooting one right now, and it really has never been easier. Each and every camera set up is easier than when I shoot news.
Think of it this way: I set up a wide shot. Pick up the light camera on the light sticks, get the medium shot, the two shot, pick it up again, and get the close up, naturally with slight light adjustments, but the point is I can do it all alone if I have to.
To do this with a heavy film camera or even the larger digital ones you will need a crew to do this. Shooting a feature with the 60d is almost like shooting news: it can be fast and spontaneous.
The weight is perfect. Both the 7d and 5d are heavier, which could put you at a disadvantage. The portability is so cool. Basically you can take the 60d anywhere you want. I hand it on top of the worlds biggest wind tower in Germany, easy to climb up with it. And you are shooting cinema quality images, in public places without drawing attention. Try doing that with a film crew. In a lot of cases its greatest benefit is its size.
The controls are better than the t2i, more like the 7d. The controls are like the 7d or 5d, and ripping through menus, or changing the white-balance on the fly is easy and fast.
Every pro newspaper shooter I know uses 60d, they love it, and shot both stills and video on it. In my carrier I personally have not had a more inexpensive camera that has produced such awe inspiring images. I love it, and you should buy Canon 60d too. Drop over to my Canon 60d review and see some cool footage I shot on the 60d.
