Transparent Electronics $195 The challenge for producing “invisible” electronic circuitry and opto-electronic devices is that the transistor materials must be transparent to visible light yet have good carrier mobilities. This requires a special class of materials having “contra-indicated properties” because from the band structure point of view, the combination of transparency and conductivity is contradictory. Structured to strike a balance between introductory and advanced topics, this monograph juxtaposes fundamental science and technology / application issues, and essential materials characteristics versus device architecture and practical applications. The first section is devoted to fundamental materials compositions and their properties, including transparent conducting oxides, transparent oxide semiconductors, p-type wide-band-gap semiconductors, and single-wall carbon nanotubes. The second section deals with transparent electronic devices including thin-film transistors, photovoltaic cells, integrated electronic circuits, displays, sensors, solar cells, and electro-optic devices. Describing scientific fundamentals and recent breakthroughs such as the first “invisible” transistor, Transparent Electronics: From Synthesis to Applications brings together world renowned experts from both academia, national laboratories, and industry. |

Grant Cardone, The Turnaround King, Stars In His Own Show On NatGeo
“America was built on small business, and many of them are in trouble today.”
Grant Cardone is a motivational speaker, author, and entrepreneur whose business success and entrepreneurial advice has led to the title “The Turnaround King.” Beginning June 19th he’ll have a new show on the National Geographic Channel called “Turnaround King” where we’ll see Grant in action when he tries to “turnaround” two struggling businesses on the verge of bankruptcy.
The erratic state of our economy has us concerned with the future.
It is no secret that our economy has suffered a severe turn down these past few years, triggering a mass shut down of too many smaller businesses, with many more struggling simply to stay open. Grants skills as a business turnaround king will be put to good use as he tries to identify just what problems each particular business is facing and the things they can do to turn things around.
Grant will come into these struggling businesses one at a time with hidden cameras to “mystery shop”, giving him an unobstructed look at the potential problems the business might be facing. He will then analyze these businesses and help them to come up with a strategy to turn things around and get back on the right track.
Turnaround King will debut with a two part special. The first episode, “Keeping The Gym” will take us to a Whippany, NJ Gold’s Gym franchise that's on the verge of closing. Gym owners, the Puleos family, are faced not just with losing their business, but are also in danger of losing the family home which had been mortgaged to keep the company afloat. After Grant tours the gym by using a hidden camera he is able to isolate several factors he believes are responsible for the Gym’s failures, including mismanagement and low membership fees.
The 2nd episode will see Grant analyzing the Straub family’s Buick dealership. This dealership has been family owned for 3 generations - for a total of 64 years. The recent bailout of GM led to many GM dealerships closing down and many, many workers being laid off. The Straub family, feeling a sense of loyalty to the employees, a lot of whom have been with the company as many as Thirty years, have been applying their personal savings to make their payroll. Was this the right thing to try and do? And will this business want to make some tough sacrifices if it wishes to stay afloat and turn things around?
Precisely what exactly is a turnaround?
As Grant states, turnarounds are normally associated with impending failures, however they may also be ascribed to individuals enjoying moderate success but would love to take it to the next level. He identifies 3 primary steps associated with a turnaround:
1) A commitment to turning things around
2) The ability to identify the true problem
3) The development of a fresh plan that will create the ideal situation
“Until someone decides to change, they will not, regardless of the need.”
The commitment to turning things around is the first step, and sounds simple enough, however, if someone continues to playing the blame game and making excuses, it can be a good sign they haven't yet fully committed to turning things around. When someone becomes fully committed, the finger pointing as well as excuses will stop.
“People become enamored with false ideas and old beliefs and even chained down by past successful actions.”
The next step is often difficult for most people. Sometimes it’s hard for individuals to recognize the real problems when clinging to their old habits. It is often tough to self analyze as people tend to lose the objectivity required to have a clear view of the problem. This makes it tricky to identify the true problem to enable them to begin studying step # 3 and create a new plan that will create the ideal situation.
