Is This Really A Canon 60d Test? Yes And No, It Is More Like Successful Footage For My New Zombie Movie, All Shot On The 60d

I decided to do the test on the awesome 60d. Watch as the darkness descends upon the venerable houses, the black storm of the Zombies approaching. I was not really doing a Canon 60d test here, I was shooting some footage for my new zombie movie, on the 60d.

But let me turn the table again and call it a Canon 60d test: any time lapse is like a test, the photographer is at the mercy of the elements. What do I mean? You just do not ever know exactly what a time lapse will produce. Its the surprise effect that I like which makes it fun. Go a head and plan the shot, in the end it will probably surprise you what you end up with.

The idea behind this Canon 60d test is that darkness and danger is descending upon landscape as if the zombie apocalypse is on it way. The Zombie apocalypse is just around the bend.

This is raw footage. All I did was straight cuts. I did not use fades, filters, or effects. In camera is the way I learned how to do it thirty years ago when effects were very expensive and difficult. I still think it looks better this way than putting the footage through effects generators. This is the old school way. So what does the old rule say? It says what you can do in camera, than do it in the camera. In this Canon 60d test there is not a lot of footage, and it took three storms to make. You need quite a bit of old fashioned patience to do these Time lapses. All it really took was getting the right manual aperture to achieve the evil atmosphere.

What you are seeing in this compressed version is not the true HD quality by a long shot. Of course the end product is going to look awesome on a big screen. Pay attention to the nasty time lapse flicker. That’s why I say every time lapse is like a Canon 60d test. Sometimes you get flicker, sometimes you don't. You can reduce the flicker in most cases. All you have to do is to use one exposure for every one second interval, this will give you a smoothest look, if not there is software to help you fix it.

The fact that light is actually changing every second, but our eyes can not perceive these changes, when the camera can, this is one factor, but I think it has something to do with the camera too. Although you get the idea of what I am after in this Canon 60d test , you will notice the compression in the blacks, and later, in the fished movie, I would match the colors, contrast, and brightness, and crush the blacks a bit, but you get the idea.
