What Is The Problem With Call Of Duty Games
What is the problem with Call of Duty games? Not a whole lot. But there is a but. And when there is a but there is something wrong. The way I see it MW3 is way too short. Now we are paying a lot of money for a game that is done in about 14 hours.
Take Skyrim into account. It is essentially an FPS game combined with RPG. Now it is likely that it will take you about 200 hours to go through just the main quest line, side lines not included.
And because of its Creation engine, which has a very advanced AI that gives randomness like real life to NPCs, and its free roaming capability, you will have thousands of hours of game-play waiting for you.
Lets say the player in Skyrim wants to stay away from the main quest line. This is easily done. There is always something to do no matter where you go in the game.
I have the feeling that Call of Duty games are getting shorter and shorter. The success of Modern Warfare has made the developers to think less about the player and more about the money. Modern Warfare 3 is not much different from its predecessor?
Not so for Skyrim! No they care about their players. They have put out a truly innovative game building upon its predecessor: Oblivion. For MW3 why wasn't this done? I think I know why.
First off there are two kinds of games. Alley games, and Island games. The Call of Duty games, or FPS, are almost always Alley games. Game boundaries are usually right beside you in alley games creating sometimes a claustrophobic sense.
Most RPG games are Island games, this is where the boundaries are not immediately perceptible. It will take you a long time to walk from one bounder to the other, and bounders are natural in nature usually a mountain.
What do I mean? I think it would be really cool if future games like MW were created like an Island game, to give the player more play time hours. I know that Call of Duty is all about multi-player, and or survival mode, and in that is were the hours of play time can be found.
But what I’m getting at is having an FPS game that empowers the player more, so the player can determine the way the game will evolve. Call it a cross-genre fps. Military games that have huge expanses usually are more strategy games, like Flashpoint. Expanding the boundaries would be great for FPS, and it doesn't have to be RPG, but imagine been able to expand and build on your combat skills to become a super solider?
But wait, do not read this the wrong way. I know that alley style games heighten the drama of the game play, and I love MW 2 and 3. FPS games are fun and Modern Warfare is one of the best one going. For once, it is time to start thinking outside the box.
Since the combat is still FPS, I like to play Skyrim. Make sure you get Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, and 3, as Call of Duty games are a lot of fun.
